Twitter has just enabled anyone and everyone to forward a verified account request. Previously, only popular accounts privileged Twitter’s trademark round blue icon as an official stamp to represent a celebrity or a company. Now the doors have been opened to anyone on the social media site to make it official.
You can get your Twitter account verified today by sending a verified account request, now possible through this form. Simply fill in your phone number, email address, and attach a profile photos with a few other requisites and your query will be on its way. Currently, the website boasts 187k verified accounts.
Twitter’s Vice President Bhatnagar said in a statement, “We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification.” Which makes sense because there are over 320M active users who regularly tweet without an official voice, the new feature will give them the power of identity.
Twitter is making this decision after several incidences of hacking had occurred that lead to impersonation and leakage of users’ data. The new policy on verified accounts will not only safeguard public figures but every man on the street who uses Tweets and uses the platform for promotional purposes.
