2016 Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review: The Smartest Phone in the Market

When Galaxy S6 Edge arrived in the market, we knew it was going to hold its ground in 2016, but the same year brought us Galaxy S7 Edge, a smartphone unlike any other. The dual curves now dance on the front side and back, so to say, the distinction meets the clarity. This Samsung Galaxy S7 review is all about the refinements that the smartphone maker has done to an already great mobile phone.

Samsung’s Edge itineration of S series phones brings something completely new to the table. The iPhone competitor tech giant finally dropped the cheap and plastic designs, employing glistening materials and beautiful curves. S7 Edge phone look similar to last year’s model, but it is radically different.

Galaxy S7 Edge Review: Design

The new Galaxy S7 Edge is the curviest phone in the market

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is a fine upgrade of the S6 version, which only featured curves on the front façade. The dual curves are the most distinguishing feature that makes S7 Edge stand apart from other smartphones. The new Edge has undergone new improvements like larger 5.5-inch display compared to the previous 5.1-screen. The glass is, of course, super-AMOLED featuring the same quad HD resolution.

The S7 Edge is both more stunning to look at and more comfortable to hold; easily slips into the pocket of your jeans. So those curves have a reason to exist. Samsung has experimented with curved displays for quite some time now, but Galaxy S7 Edge is their proudest presentation yet. It gives the display a larger surface area (even for a 5.5-inch screen) without adding to the dimensions, but it is much narrower than similar smartphones. Nexus 6P, LG G4 or even Samsung’s own Note 5 Edge brag to have an edge, but nothing compares to this.

The S7 Edge is also thicker, but don’t lose your heart, it is only there for a nobler purpose: a longer battery life!  There you have it. 3600-mAh battery is packing some serious talk time and stamina for more photos and videos.

Galaxy S7 Edge Review: Performance

Exynos Chipset packing 4GB RAM with 64-bit architecture makes the 1990s still scratch their heads because 4 gigabytes worth of memory power in a smartphone is really explosive while many people even still don’t have a 64-bit desktop or laptop. Shift the gears with 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Cortex-A53 with Exynos 8890 Octa GPU, and you would know that you have enough material to outface highly graphic android games of the future.

Recharging takes as less as 50 minutes to fill the belly of its huge 3600 mAh battery. We already mentioned external SD card, but we probably missed that the upper limit supports up to 200GB than the usual 128GB slots. Samsung is really trying to give users an ‘Edge’ here so they don’t feel betrayed, because their newest product is truly future-proof. (Just a metaphor, nothing is future-proof)

Galaxy S7 Edge Review: Operating System

Google that that releasing Android Marshmallow with Nexus 6P would really do the match, and in this case, they win because Galaxy S7 Edge at places does seem like it could take some useless load off its OS, like Verizon edition and amazon apps. But on the brighter site, the Edge swipe out feeds are twice as wide as before and more comfortable to play with, which greatly oversight the unlikeness to carrier apps the smartphone inherits.

S7 Edge has on always-on display mode which shows date and time or even a picture without you having to unlock the phone. The practicality of this feature had been greatly enhanced had it displayed notifications in this mode, so most users might end up turning it off. So just use it as your accessory.

Galaxy S7 Edge Review: Camera

Samsung is making a big deal out of the smartphone cameras and Galaxy S7 Edge got the most of it. Boasting a 12MP camera with 4k quality videos, S7 launches the camera very fast, focuses very fast and takes amazing pictures in any kind of light. However, minor complaints like yellowish images in low light and broken pixels when you zoom in too much still linger, but every phone has them so no big deal.

The 5MP front camera features HDR as well, while rear came has Phase detection, auto HDR, OIS and face detection. The Dual LED flash boosts brightness in the low light while they also act as a powerful torch with an integrated app.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is waterproof and can withstand drowning up to 1.5 meters under the water for 30 minutes. That’s got to be useful during rainy seasons. Moreover, 2016 revision of Edge phones come with support for SD card, so if built-in 32GB isn’t enough to store your data, you can jack in an external SD card and make more room.

Galaxy S7 Edge Review: Usability

Force Touch technology enables S7 Edge to measure the amount of pressure exerted on the screen with each touch, which interprets hard touch and soft touch as two different commands like single-click and double-click of a PC mouse. Fingerprint scanner for Samsung Pay (VISA, Mastercard certified) feature cannot be more useful, but you also get ANT+ support to measure the heart rate so now your phone also monitors your health status with the appropriate hardware.

The Verdict

The truth is we fell in love with S6 Edge, it made us feel warm. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is even better because it is a very useful phone with brilliant qualities. It is curvier, smoother, smarter, faster, easier and most of all it is hassle-free. We have expected so much from many other phones, ending up beguiled. But as of now, if you wish to hold the most delicate piece of cell phone technology, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is the smartest android phone available in the market.
